Every student in beginning band is in a class that will meet for 45 minutes everyday. There are very few required after school rehearsals for beginners and those are as we get closer to the end of each semester. The schedule is as follows:

Requirements and Activities
Concerts: All band students are expected to participate in two night concerts during the school year. These concerts are in December (Winter Concert) and in May (Spring Concert). All students will stay after school on these dates, they are expected to bring their uniform with them to school, we will have a rehearsal after school and we will provide dinner for all students on the night of the concert. Each concert is a major grade, as all our efforts culminate in this performance. A band depends on each of its members to create an excellent performance. Concert attendance is required. If you think there will be an issue please let a director know at least two weeks in advance. We can help solve any transportation issues.
Supplies: Every student will have books and instruments provided for them by Mendez Middle School. If you would like to purchase your own book or instrument please seek the help of a director. We want you to invest in a quality instrument that will last your student a long time. Students are asked to provide the following supplies:
-Black 1 inch three ring binder
-5 dividers for binder
-pencils (PENS ARE NOT ALLOWED)
Recommended supplies for home practice:
-Metronome (there are free apps and www.metronomeonline.com is another free option)
-Music stand

Financial Obligations
All members of the Mendez Band are expected to pay a $40 band fee per year but we don't want lack of ability to pay the band fee to hold you back from being in band. We will have a few fundraiser opportunities to help with the band fee and the cost of the trip. For the 2015-2016 school year, the Beginning Band spring trip which is not required will be to Main Event in Austin. The estimated cost of the trip is $60.
Uniform Information
CONCERT UNIFORM
Beginning Band students must provide their concert band uniform. The uniform is a solid white shirt, black dress pants, and black shoes. If this is an issue please let us know but the beginning band has several months before they need to have these uniforms ready.

Parental Support
There is nothing more important to your child's study of music than your sincere and consistent support. Please help by attending our concerts, encouraging home performances, and by helping your child understand that the more he/she practices now, the more fun and success they will have later.
